Do You Need Terms and Conditions When Wholesaling Jewelry?

by Rena Klingenberg on August 1, 2007

Question: I am starting a business wholesaling jewellery. I have got a catalogue and samples, and I also have invoices and order forms. Do I need terms and conditions for the retailer when they place their order or buy from me?

Answer: In a couple of my articles I briefly discuss terms and conditions for wholesaling:

Jewelry Line Sheets (scroll down to the section of this article called What Your Line Sheet Should Include).

Jewelry Pricing Terms (read the last paragraph of the section called Wholesale Pricing).

I would also recommend that you visit the websites of several other product wholesalers and check out their terms and conditions to get an idea of the areas you need to address.

Basically your terms and conditions should spell out clearly what’s expected of you, and of the customer – so there won’t be any quibbles later.

Once you have your terms and conditions drafted, I strongly recommend having a lawyer look them over for you.

This small expense up front can potentially save you horrific headaches and expenses later!

I hope this helps – and I wish you every success with your new venture!
