When I photograph earrings, I’ve found that it’s nearly impossible to make both earrings appear perfectly vertical and perfectly parallel to each other in the finished photo – no matter how precisely aligned they seem when I’m shooting or scanning them.
But this frustration led me to a neat discovery:
Placing earrings at artsy angles to each other is much more visually intriguing and dynamic, and romanticizes the piece.
So don’t kill yourself trying to achieve a boring, perfectly vertical earring shot.
Lay the jewelry out at interestingly unusual angles to each other and romanticize the photo!

Dear Rena, thank you for your great website and now, this blog.
Excellent suggestion if you want to photograph a pair laying flat.
Since I use a lot of large pearls or beads, I need to show the earrings hanging.
My solution has been to photograph only 1 earring unless I have a mismatched pair- i.e. 1 black, 1 white.
I find that hanging 1 earring allows me to get very close with my close-up setting therefore showing more detail and quality such as pearl lustre.
I use a small black velvet earring display and place it against a colored background such as a painted wall. While I have a light box, I get better results with natural light and no flash.

That’s an interesting idea.
It never occurred to me to photograph one earring – so I peeked at your site and saw how well you make it work.
It’s definitely a nice way to show greater detail, especially with larger beads or larger earring designs.

Hi, well I do different ways to display earring, for the loops I put them in a ball in cross angle and for the hanging ones I use a mini metal model that is holding them in her hands, there is different ways to display earrings that attract attention.
I am open for other suggestions as well.
