Lovely, Cheap DIY Jewelry Display

by Rena Klingenberg on July 24, 2009

Kotomi Yamamura makes gorgeous jewelry inspired by history.

Here she also shares a clever DIY jewelry display created from heavy cardstock, that can be used to show necklaces or bracelets.

on her DIY jewelry display.

Kotomi uses this paper pattern to cut out her cardstock; she suggests that since her jewelry tends to be large, you may want to adjust the size of the pattern to suit the size of your jewelry:

Pattern for Kotomi’s display;
the center line measures 23 cm.

Once her cardstock is cut out, she curves it into a cone shape and staples the two flat edges together.

In the top photo, you can see a small tab she added to the display for looping the back of her necklace around so it wouldn’t slide off the display.

Great tut, thanks for that information. It would definitely make a nice inexpensive bust when money is tight and time is small. Very pretty too!

Really neat ideas in this jewellery blog – thank you so much. Great simple ideas for display….and cutting costs – what more could anyone ask for! Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the reminder!

I have read you can make these out of foam sheets from the craft store too.

I loved this jewelry display project by Kotomi when I first saw it! It’s as elegant or as edgy as you design it to be – and thanks for adding your great tip for using craft foam sheets, Debbie!

One of the things I love so much about handmade jewelry businesses is that we get to pour our artistry and creativity into all aspects of it – the packaging, displays, workspace, ways of keeping in touch with customers, etc.

Kotomi’s display is an inspiring example of that! Thank you, Kotomi!

These are ideal for indoor and outdoor shows. I used manilla folders and hot-glued black velvet onto them; office clips can give you a little height and enable flat storage.

Do yourself a favor and check out Kotomi’s sites. her work will amaze and inspire you!

I used this tut to make displays this winter. So far they are working great. I used the thicker, large size sheets of craft foam, and used spray adhesive to apply fabric to them. I also used double sided tape to stick it together in the back. I leave all my necklaces on these displays, and they stack nicely, making for speedy setup the next time I have a show. Great tutorial!

At last! I have been looking for something like this for a while, easy, pretty, practical. Thank you for sharing!

wow, I am glad that I found this website. I never thought about making my own jewelry display stands until now. The ones that you buy from craft stores are kind of expensive so I will be making these and thanks again.

I agree this is such a nice idea for necklaces I’m going to make my own. The trouble with ones we’ve bought in past is that you can’t adjust the size to match the jewellery, now I can make them to the exact sizes that I need.

Ooh thanks, excellent idea

Awesome idea! I’ve been needing something like this for awhile. Elaine, from TooAquarius wrote about using these and so I found you through her. Thanks so much for the fabulous display idea!
