Trade Your Jewelry for Goods and Services

by Rena Klingenberg on April 20, 2008

Kari Anderson of Kari Pearls was surprised by an email she received from one of her customers.

Kari recalls, “She said she was in a new stage in life and was selling out all her fabric crafting equipment….would I be interested?  And by the way, she added, I’d be willing to barter for your pearls“.

Find out what happened next in Kari’s new article, Bartering Jewelry.

Also visit Kari Pearls for a true education in pearls – including jewelry, images, and lots of fascinating information!

I started doing craft shows last year and bartered for a few items, including a beautiful ceramic bowl with a painting of the Blue Ridge Mountains on it. I participate in a crafters’ gallery and the artists there barter all the time. I plan doing most of my Christmas shopping done early this year, through bartering. I’ve never bartered on the scale that Kari did, though!

Dear Rena,

Oh yes! I think bartering is clearly a powerful idea not to be overlooked! It has made me so happy! First of all, I now have a massage therapist! At shows, I have things which I truly love: a PJ set, a gorgeous blouse, fantastic gifts for birthdays and holidays, candles, jewelry show labor (!), print material for my jewelry business, free memberships to organizations…etc. etc.

I think this is something we should all include in our year end income statements in a private note: “wow, I kind of like this business I’m in!”

There’s a site Doodad Swap (www.doodadswap.com) that has a jewelry section several people are using to swap and trade their jewelry for whatever. My wife has had success and fun trading and bartering her jewelry there. May be worth a look.
