About
I’m Rena Klingenberg – jewelry artist, author, and publisher of information on making and selling jewelry.
Many years ago my lifelong addiction to earrings led me to the wonderful hobby of collecting beads and making my own earrings.
But beads and earrings were only the beginning!
My jewelry-making obsession quickly snowballed until I found myself making all kinds of other jewelry and learning wonderful new techniques with wire and other materials.
But when I’d filled my jewelry box (and the jewelry boxes of my friends and family!) to capacity with my creations, I realized I was going to have to either stop making jewelry – or start selling it.
So my handcrafted jewelry business was born.
Since then I’ve sold my handmade jewelry in nearly every way imaginable – including shows, parties, consignment, wholesale, sales reps, distributors, my website, eBay, trunk shows, fundraiser shows, etc.
One day I realized that I’d learned a lot of valuable information along the way that could help other jewelry artists succeed in selling their work too.
So in 2003 I began publishing my Home Jewelry Business Success Tips website to share tips, ideas, and strategies for marketing handmade jewelry.
My intention was to create the information resource I would have loved to find when I first began selling my jewelry.
Before long, other jewelry artists began generously sending in their tips and experiences for me to add to my website, and today Home Jewelry Business Success Tips has over 1,000 pages of free information for home-based jewelers.
These days I’m still selling the jewelry I make – and I also publish three additional websites for jewelry artists:
- Jewelry Display Ideas – where home-based jewelers share their creative, DIY solutions for displaying and packaging jewelry.
- Making Jewelry Now – tips, tutorials, ideas, and inspiration for designing jewelry.
- My Jewelry Business Blog (where you are right now) – which sort of pulls all of my work together and also offers timely tips, info, and resources for jewelry artists.
I also publish Jewelry Business Success News, an email newsletter that goes out twice a month to thousands of jewelry artists all over the world.
I’ve written three in-depth books on specific aspects of selling handcrafted jewelry:
- Ultimate Guide to Your Profitable Jewelry Booth – a guidebook for selling jewelry successfully at shows, fairs, and festivals.
- Secrets of a Handcrafted Jewelry Shopping Service – a guide to selling jewelry via private showings, trunk shows, and as business gifts.
- Social Networking: Sell Your Jewelry Online the New Way – the guide to using the enormous trend of online social networking to sell jewelry on the Web.
I welcome your sharing ideas, tips, and content on all of my websites.
Here’s where you can share your jewelry content and gain exposure on my network of jewelry websites:
My websites are resources for the handmade jewelry community to participate in, be inspired by, and inspire others!
And whenever I publish your contributions on my sites, you always receive a link back to your jewelry business.
Thanks so much for joining me here – and I wish you every joy and success in your own jewelry journey!

I have found both your blog and you main website very interesting. I plan on learning much more from you. I have a great deal of experiance at the wholesale level but not much at the retail level. I started out doing the jewelry party thing a few years back and enjoyed it. I then went back to a regular job for a few years. We ended up moving to an area that is very rural so the jewelry parties were out of the question – at least for now. I still have my suppliers so I decided to do the website and see how it goes from there. I still have a lot to learn but I now have a resource in your sites.
I read your news letter today. I started to make jewelry more than a year ago. I was very excited at first until the business I was displaying my jewelry at closed. My sales were minimal anyway. Since then I have sold to a few people and tried to find a retailer in my area who would display my jewelry. I haven’t had much luck and for many reasons I quit trying to sell or make any more jewelry. Your newsletter and your ebook have given me new hope that I could try selling at local fairs. Thank you. I know I have a lot to learn and I need the courage to go forward.
I really like your website as all the information provided is useful for my jewelry business. Keep up the good work.
I am very inspired by blogs. I’ve just started out with my work and hope to build it up. Anyway thank you so much for your tips and willingness to share your ideas for the beginner!
I just started a blog and it is fun. I love your site it is so inspiring and has given my alot of good ideas. Now I just have to figure out how to get people to follow my blogs. Thanks for all the tips.
